- The most important step for the closest shave is the preparation of the beard. The best time to shave is after a warm shower; however, if this is not possible, wet your whiskers with warm - not hot - water and allow the beard to soften for 2 minutes before beginning to shave.
- If you have a stubborn beard, goatee or sideburns, use AMERICAN CREW LUBRICATING SHAVE OIL and/or CREW PRECISION SHAVE GEL which will allow you to see the hairline. Also use LUBRICATING SHAVE OIL if your hair grows in many different directions and/or you have sensitive skin. After showering, apply 3-4 drops of LUBRICATING SHAVE OIL in a circular motion and remoisten after 10 seconds and skip to Step 4.
- For all other beard and skin types, liberally apply AMERICAN CREW MOISTURISING SHAVE CREAM to the area to be shaved. - Shave in the direction of your hair growth, going with the grain, especially on skin which is sensitive. First, shave the cheeks and sideburns, working your way to the neck. It is best to shve the chin and upper lip last, to allow the full softening benefits of Crew Shave.
- Always make sure the razor is sharp. A disposable will be good for 4-5 shaves 'only' on a medium beard. Ensure that the blade is cleaned intermittently in hot running water. After shaving, thoroughly rinse the blade to ensure that no resdiue remains.
- Throughly rinse your face and neck in water no hotter than luke warm. Hot water will rid the skin of much needed oils. Then finish with cool water to tone the skin surface.
